How to Kill a Spider When You Have Arachnophobia

Many of us have a fear of spiders. For some, the fear is minor and manageable, where you may jump a little when you see one but you can walk over and squish it or take it outside with ease. But for others, that fear can be substantial. Those with severe arachnophobia often struggle with even being in the same house as a spider and panicking at the site of one.

It’s easy to see how this can be a problem for someone that finds a spider in their home. They need to kill it, but they also find it difficult to attack the spider with a paper towel, since it requires them getting very close to the spider’s location.

At 24 Hour Pest Control NYC, our goal is to eliminate and prevent spiders using state of the art pest control technology. But, even with pest control, spiders can find their way inside. The following are some quick ideas that may help you get rid of the spider, even if you have arachnophobia.

DIY Strategies for Spider Elimination

Unfortunately, you will need to find a way to come at least within a few feet of the spider. There is no way to eliminate spiders without some form of contact. There’s no magic way to get rid of spiders if they’re in another room, for example. But there are a few tricks you can use to limit how close you have to be in order to capture it or kill it. These include:

  • Windex – Windex is toxic to spiders. Spraying a spider with Windex will quickly kill it, making it easier for you to pick up and throw away.
  • Vacuums – By placing a vacuum on high power, you can suck up the spider into the vacuum so that you do not have to touch it in order to remove it.
  • Brooms – Brooms are a bit tougher to use, because you have to apply enough pressure to kill the spider despite the bristles. But with enough force you should be able to injure or squish the spider and then remove it.

We do offer 24 hour pest control if you need an expert to eliminate the spider, and we have some very unique strategies for keeping spiders away, including a process called “exclusion” which seals up potential entrance points so that pests cannot enter. But, while there is no way to eliminate a spider from inside of your home without a little bit of personal involvement, there are some small and simple strategies you can use to kill the spider from a distance that can be helpful if you have arachnophobia.
